Texas Brownies with Ice Cream

3 cups flour
6 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa
3 cups sugar
3/4 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup margarine

3 eggs
3/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups water or coffee
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

In a large bowl combine flour and sugar. In a heavy pan combine margarine, shortening, coffee or water and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over flour and sugar. Then add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into a well buttered 15 x 15 pan. Bake @ 400 for 20 minutes or until brownies are done. Serve with ice cream.
