Brer Rabbit Molasses Cookies

  3/4 cup shortening
  1cup sugar
  1/4 cup Brer Rabbit Molasses
  1 egg
  2 tsp. baking soda

  2 cups sifted flour
  1/2 tsp. cloves
  1/2 tsp. ginger
  1/2 tsp. salt
  1 tsp. cinnamon

Melt shortening in 3 or 4 quart pan over low heat. Remove from heat; let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well. Sift flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to first mixture. Mix well then chill. Form into 1 balls, roll in granulated sugar and place 2 apart on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes in a preheated oven. DO NOT OVER BAKE!
