San Lan Ranch in Lakeland, FL was our camping/dancing
destination. We had 15 member rigs and one guest rig. Eileen and Bill's
friends from the mountains, Fran and Steve, spent the weekend with us.
We had a very awesome third weekend (November 15/16) celebrating with an
early Thanksgiving meal, meeting up with friends we have not seen in awhile
and enjoying the fun of square and round dancing. Hosting the weekend were
Sharon/Steve Cormier and Eileen/Bill Kopp.
So many of our members arrived early on Thursday. It was decided we would
all go to Ruby Tuesday for dinner, which we did....funny thing though, we
ended up at two different Ruby Tuesdays...which was fine...all were pleased
with their meal!
Friday morning several of the men went golfing. The weather looked
threatening but they were able to finish their game. Friday afternoon, we
were treated to ice cream, thanks to Eileen and Bill.
Phil and Deanna had company on Friday - their son Randy (whose birthday was
coming up on Saturday) and friend Susan came to enjoy a 'boiled dinner' (his
favorite meal!) which Deanna cooked up during the day. Most of us thought
she meant corned beef and cabbage - but no... you will need to ask her what
'boiled dinner' she did serve!
Our dance on Friday was lively as always, thanks to our caller, Ron Reardon.
San Lan has a beautiful hall with a great wooden floor for dancing.
Saturday morning was special as Sharon and her gang served up waffles and
strawberries for breakfast, along with an array of pastries and Karen's
quiche. All so delicious, afterwards some of us made sure to walk or ride
our bikes for some needed exercise!
The Thanksgiving themed potluck was delectable! Our hosts served up turkey
and several other dishes along with food brought by the rest of the members.
So delicious and satisfying! Everyone did an outstanding job providing
everything needed to be served up for that special meal!
Before the meal, at our general meeting, we had election of our 2014
officers: President, Phil/Deanna Sortore; Vice President, Jerry Ann
Lapniewski; Secretary, Tom/Jeanne Hartwig; Treasurer, Fredda Barlow. They
will be installed before the start of our January Saturday dance at Olde
Mill Stream, Umatilla. Steve Cormier will do the installation.
We were sorry to learn three of our couples will no longer be able to be
part of our 082 family in 2014: Ace/Ann Taylor, Dave/Kaye Benne, E. B./Sarah
Keith. We wish them all well and hope they come by to visit when they can.
Our square dances on both Friday and Saturday nights will now start at 7:30
with early rounds at 7:00.
Tom Brown is our new SNOOPER editor.
