Majestic May festivities with great
dancing/activities, super nice campground and a delectable abundance
Our outing took place at Glen Haven RV Resort in Zephyrhills, FL the weekend
of May 17 - 19, 2012. Our Chapter holds a very distinctive honor: we were
the first rally to be held at Glen Haven.
The office manager, Inga, was ecstatic and quite happy to have us there. She
is an extremely pleasant, friendly, fun-loving person. She came to our
dances both nights to watch, brought several friends, and we truly enjoyed
her company and good humor!
The hosts/hostesses for the weekend
were Al and Mary Teschner along with Fredda Barlow and her brother Vince.
They planned and presented us with a weekend of relaxation and fun. Mary
said they were in awe of the kitchen and its facilities. They may not have
had a stove but everything else was available and they were encouraged to
use whatever they needed. Not every campground has 6 crock pots at our
Thursday evening there were 16 of us enjoying hors d'oeuvres along with beef
tenderloin steak, twice baked potatoes, salad, cornbread casserole and
dessert at Fredda's ranch. We enjoyed visiting with her horses. Thanks to
Sandy for helping Fredda in the kitchen. Great evening of fellowship.
Friday morning several of the women left for a day of shopping, antiquing
and lunching in the Zephyrhills area while several of the men spent the time
golfing. By dinnertime we had 23 folks dining at Piccola Italia in the town;
wonderful food at reasonable prices.
Our Friday night dance had 3 squares on the floor at times, high paced and
plenty of good fun and laughter. At one point, our caller Ron Reardon stated
and I quote: "You dance like professionals!"
Saturday started out with breakfast served by our hosts/hostesses: egg and
sausage casseroles along with fruit and pastries. Before we could turn
around, it was time to meet for Sharon Cormier's lunch of clam chowder and
clam cakes. Delicious!
Our caller, Ron Reardon, mentioned the previous month he would set up for
karaoke singing Saturday afternoon. As soon as we arrived and started, Ron
said he had purchased a special song for someone because they had mentioned
how much they liked it: the song was 'Red Solo Cup' and he asked Tom Hartwig
to come up and perform. Tom did quite a rousing rendition - I think we were
all in awe! We discovered we have a chapter of excellent singers. Everyone
who sang did an awesome job! What some thought would be about a half hour of
singing ended up to be 2 hours of singing, laughter and good cheer!
Dinner was 'bring your own steak' while the hosts/hostesses prepared baked
potatoes, salad, fruit and desserts. Totally enjoyed by all.
And finally the Saturday dance was another night of fun dancing. However,
perhaps we were becoming worn out from all the eating we did, but at one
point after a tip, Ron stated...and I quote: "You guys dance like you need a
workshop!" We all agreed and had a good laugh!
