The Great Outdoors Resort in Titusville, FL was our
destination for our February 4th weekend campout, the 23rd to 25th. However,
once again we had a terrific turnout of rigs on Thursday the 22nd! It is a
great day for relaxing and greeting everyone as they arrive.
Although we did not have specific hosts and
hostesses this month, the help was there - starting with Sandy and George
Oakes, who once again kept the weekend flowing smoothly with their kitchen
expertise for several events over the weekend.
With the help of many members, the tent was always
set up for dining and the after parties. This month, we were very lucky to
have the use of the campground's pavilion for dancing both Friday and
Saturday night. Our thanks to Lillian and Dave, residents of Great Outdoors
for helping us obtain the pavilion. Heard we had a little elf who always had
the pavilion set up with chairs/tables, ready to dance!
Seems we had leftovers from our spaghetti dinner in
January; Sandy came up with the idea to serve meatball/sausage subs for
lunch Saturday. Along with chips, pickles and orange slices provided by
Sandie Galloway, we had a very satisfying meal!
The tent was a great place to gather for card
games, crafts and visiting.
Back to Thursday....several weeks ago I sent an
email informing our members that (aghast!) Tom Hartwig was turning 70 in
March and I asked if they would participate in rubbing it in to him by
bringing 70 items of some kind to present to him. We gathered outside the
tent and the surprise was begun! I will not list all the items, too many to
note! - but one that seemed to be the hit...a straw hat to die for which had
70 golf tees glued all around it! Dan and Sue Ann, what a super original
idea! Items were given to him Friday and Saturday as campers arrived on
those days. All items were great - I thank all those who joined in the fun.
The dances both nights were exceptional. We
had dancers visit who lived at the resort and also a few from other areas.
Four squares on the floor many times both nights. John Swindle and his
lovely wife Gail visited with us on Saturday night. John had just had minor
knee surgery the Wednesday before! It was wonderful to see them. Our caller,
Ron Reardon had us dancing the nights away, along with our cuer on Saturday
night, Jan Shankle.
