Our November campout took place at Sanlan Ranch in
Lakeland, FL during the 3rd weekend of the month, the 18th to the 20th. We
had 14 member rigs and 1 guest couple arrive with quite a few coming in on
Thursday the 17th! It seems more and more of us like the idea of extending
our camping stays!
Hosts and hostesses for the weekend were Dave and
Kay Benne, Bob and Terry Danza along with Ace and Ann Taylor. Wow, did they
ever plan an active time for us. Their theme was: 'Your Favorite Football
Team'. Some campers wore their favorite teams' shirts, hats, et cetera
throughout the weekend. On Saturday, the hosts provided a tailgate lunch
after which time they had many of us taking part in passing and punting
contests. Several members, after showing off, by which I mean showing off
their expertise; were awarded prizes - all very useful items! Another fun
Before we all scattered away, it was decided to
have a group picture taken; 3 photos are on the website. I like getting a
shot of everyone gathering in place - no one quite ready - so that is how
the first one is. The other two are almost identical; I just see one person
who seems to have moved, look and see if you can find her. Thanks to our
guest, Karen Lowe, for taking those 2 pictures.
At the general meeting, after the potluck supper,
we had election of officers. The slate of officers for the year 2012 will
be: President, Al and Mary Teschner; Vice President, Steve and Sharon
Cormier; Secretary, Tom and Jeanne Hartwig; Treasurer, Tom and Eivor Brown.
They will be installed into office before our Saturday dance on January
Several of the men went golfing Thursday; Tom
Hartwig presented the golf buddy award to Phil Sortore for an amazing shot.
You should ask them about it.
It was decided we will take a group picture in
January to add to this website as we will be attired in our colorful red,
yellow and black club outfits.
Our sincere sympathies go out to Dot Nimmons on the
passing of her husband Bill. Several of our members attended his memorial
service on Friday, November 18th. Memorial donations will be sent to Hospice
for Dennis Barlow and to cancer research for Bill Nimmons.
Before the start of the Saturday dance our caller
Ron Reardon announced he was going to do two singing calls at the request of
Dot Nimmons: first tip he did "Beautiful Noise" and he finished the evening
with "Fly, Fly Away".
It was wonderful to have so many of our snowbirds
back on the dance floor enjoying the squares and rounds.
Congratulations to Sandy and George Oakes on the
birth of a grandson, Jacob Matthew Oakes. His photo Sandy emailed us shows
what a cutie he is!
Al and Mary Teschner have a new addition to their
family: a micro poodle named Lexi Lou they 'adopted' while in Louisiana. A
new little sister for their other dog, Casper! We were surpised and tickled
to meet Lexi Lou and enjoyed her antics over the weekend. Mary reports: She
has had a grooming, but that didn't do much for the soft fuzz. Now she
doesn't look like Buckwheat (on Our Gang), more like a fake mink collar.
And, Mary says, 'Lexi Lou's calling card is: Micro Puddle'!
In closing, I think I may have set a record of some
kind! At the Saturday dance, I had the distinct privilege of ROUND dancing
with 3 different gentlemen in ONE dance!! To be perfectly clear - it had
nothing to do with my being a popular dancing partner...it was more to do
with my having two left feet! I thank all three of you for your patience and
guidance and not allowing me to give up!
