March 2011

The following was written by Phil Sortore
President of Hitch 'n Go, Chapter 082

A Tribute to Pete Shankle in his memory:

On Tuesday, March 22, 2011, we lost a friend and a great member of Hitch 'n Go Chapter 082.  Pete Shankle was a member of Hitch 'n Go for 34+ years joining in December 1976.  He was a dedicated member and missed only a few dances in all those years as our cuer.  I would guess that Pete was a member of NSDCA almost the longest of any other member.  He was a friend and cuer to a lot of dancers in the state of Florida and will be missed.  I personally will never forget what he was to this club and how he cared so much to be with us especially the last few years.  Our prayers need to go out for Jan and her family and help her recover from this sad time.'

Members and friends of Chapter 082 will always remember Pete Shankle; he will be greatly missed.

Our group met the weekend of March 25/26 at Olde Mill Stream in Umatilla, FL. We had 17 member rigs and 3 guest couples visiting.

This month's hosts & hostesses planned a Western themed weekend. They were Wild Bill and Poke-along Dot Nimmons and Sheriff Quick Draw Eddie and side-kick Joyce Julian. Breakfast on Saturday was a 'Chuck Wagon Special' prepared by those cow-pokes. Everything provided for us but our grubbing tools!

Later Saturday morning, many of our members took part in the Bull Roping contest. That was one mean bull but by the time he was finally taken down by our feisty Miss Eileen, he was done through!

Saturday afternoon brought on some line-dancing led by Dot Nimmons and an APD workshop presented by caller Ron Reardon.

Saturday evening our Western Barn Dance was led by the 'meanest, baddest, sweetest-voiced hombre around' - Ron Reardon. Our thanks to Joanne and Ken Helton for filling in on rounds. We enjoyed dancing with our Canadian friends and other residents of Olde Mill Stream.

(Thanks to our hosts and hostesses for helping with this Western themed write-up!)

Secretary
