April 2010

Theme World RV Park in Davenport, FL was the setting for our 4th weekend square dance/camping outing in April. The weekend was hosted by Jim/Laureen Kelly and Phil/Deanna Sortore.

There were 14 rigs in attendance plus we had a guest couple. It is always nice to see Harvey and Diane, friends of the Kellys; we enjoyed their visit with us.

Our Chapter had many accomplishments this month. First, for one of our sporting events (bean bag toss) at our July International Camporee in Orlando, we were responsible for making new boards and bean bags. So, the men worked on and completed the boards and the women worked together stuffing and doing the final sewing of the bean bags.

Thanks to Phil Sortore for engineering the board project and thanks to Eivor Brown for all her work measuring, cutting, and initial sewing of the bags, along with supplying materials. The men accomplished their project in short order and with 12 women gathered, we accomplished stuffing and sewing 48 bean bags in about an hour. There was plenty of talking and laughing going on at the same time!

Our Vice Presidents accomplished filling up our schedule for 2011 with various campgrounds. Our activities chairperson accomplished filling her schedule for 2011 with volunteers to host the weekends.

Our Chapter Representative is accomplishing her task, selling ribbons and raffle tickets for the July International Camporee and also for the October State Camporee to be held in Bushnell, FL.

With the beautiful weather, we were able to enjoy our Saturday pancake breakfast outdoors. Several of us enjoyed riding with Bill Nimmons on his 3-wheeler bike!

Our two nights of dancing with our caller, Charlie Pergrossi and cuers Pete and Jan Shankle, were as usual filled with laughter and good times. Pete and Jan were presented with their Hitch 'n Go honorary lifetime member badges. It was great to see the Whittens back out on the dance floor...and the Fourniers, too, for a short time!

I have now accomplished writing this article!
