Our Chapter caller, Charlie Pergrossi, and his lovely wife
Sarah were hosts for our September campout, assisted by
past-presidents, Dick and Nancy Fournier. They all did a
fantastic job, as you will read as you progress through my
Our fun-time took place at the Floridian RV Resort in St.
Cloud, FL during the fourth weekend of September. It was our
first weekend of square dance camping after a summer of
monthly social gatherings.
Five couples were early arrivals on Thursday. As always,
that day is spent relaxing with those campers catching up on
each other's news.
Friday, more rigs trickled in throughout the day until we
had a final count of 9-1/2 couples. As the campers arrived,
Sarah handed each a list containing a schedule she worked up
as to times and activities planned for the weekend. It was a
wonderful tool for all of us, knowing exactly what to expect
and when and there were many favorable comments expressed.
Great idea, Sarah!
Friday morning several of the men went golfing. Around 2
PM, Sarah served up welcome cookies as we geared up for the
rest of the day. Soon after the golfers' return our
president, Phil Sortore, checked with each camper about
joining in on a pizza supper - he then picked up the pizzas
for us all to enjoy. Thanks, Phil!
It sure was great to get back in the square dancing mode at
our casual Friday dance. Charlie is always so up-beat and
ready to get us moving. I had to smile when very early in
the evening, he did my favorite singing call; always fun to
dance to that lively tune! And we had a nice surprise when
two of our couples who opted not to camp came and danced
with us. The evening ended with an after-party at the dance
Bright and early Saturday morning, Charlie and Dick served
up not just the usual pancake breakfast, but had sausage
sizzling and fresh fruit supplied. Very tasty and enjoyed by
Afternoon activity enjoyed by several of the women and one
of the guys: Sarah planned a craft session with the theme
being 'pirate' - in preparation for our pirate-themed
camporee coming up in October. The fun ideas Sarah presented
were: making a parrot, eye-patch, bracelet and earrings. It
was a very enjoyable and constructive pastime for everyone
The hosts planned a Saturday supper of soup, salad and
sandwiches. Of course, there were plenty of all those
choices, delicious as always - plus a birthday cookie to
honor our September honorees, one of whom was Charlie!
Our president Phil Sortore mentioned and honored all our
members who had birthdays during the summer.
We congratulate the new editors of our camping magazine,
NSDCA Times, our very own Sarah and Charlie Pergrossi. We
welcome new associate members to our chapter: Roger Tipps
and Janet Bowen.
Jan and Pete Shankle arrived Saturday evening to do as Jan
called it: early, early, rounds at 7 PM. Great to see them
both. We all of Hitch 'n Go appreciate their talent and
dedication to us.
