Sanlan Ranch in Lakeland, FL was our Chapter's home away from home during
the third weekend of May. Sanlan Ranch is an attractive, quiet campground
with a beautiful hall large enough to accommodate our dancing and other
Tom and I, along with Jim & Laureen Kelly, were the hosts/hostesses.
In honor of Armed forces Day, we decorated the tables with red, white and
blue tablecloths along with red, white and blue centerpieces. Laureen even
found candy in flag-draped wrapping which we scattered about on the tables.
We thank George and Sandy Oakes for once again loaning us their Uncle Sam
stood proudly keeping his eyes upon us as we danced and dined.
Thanks to Jim Kelly and Tom Hartwig for serving up our pancake breakfast on
Saturday morning. The blueberry pancakes were a big hit. The day was
pleasant enough for us to be able to eat outside.
After breakfast, several of the men went golfing. Soon after they returned,
we gathered in the hall to try a new activity. We had a cakewalk, or, as
is known to some, musical chairs. Laureen baked an apple cake and I baked a
carrot cake - our two winners, Bonnie Gearhart, and Eivor Brown, kindly
donated the cakes to our pot-luck supper. Thanks to all our members (who
were able) who were good sports and participated.
Although we endured several storms and two power outages, we still were able
to enjoy our two nights of dancing with our caller, Charlie Pergrossi and
cuers Jan and Pete Shankle.
Our next three months will be social get-togethers, no dancing, until we
meet again in September. Some of us will meet at Jetty Park in June. Several
couples will be traveling to Rayne, LA in July for our International
Camporee and finally a number of us will camp together at Disney's Fort
Wilderness in August. As usual, I will look forward to reporting back on all
the adventures and fun we plan to have.
