Our Chapter met during the final windy weekend of March while camping at
Olde Mill Stream in Umatilla, FL. Six rigs pulled in early on Thursday,
March 26. The day was spent socializing and renewing friendships before we
ventured out to investigate a new (to us!) eating establishment for dinner.
All twelve campers enjoyed their dining experience so much so that on
Friday, we broke tradition of dining on pizza and we had 16 couples venture
back to the Umatilla Tavern where many enjoyed the all-you-can-eat catfish.
By dance time Friday evening, we had 17 couples and 2 guest couples enjoying
the calling of our caller, Charlie Pergrossi. He was again very kind to
provide round dancing for the evening. Charlie's hot hash tip at the end of
the dance kept us dancing on our toes!
Saturday afternoon found us once again engaging in a new activity. Our
hosts/hostesses for the weekend were Tom/Eiver Brown and Eddie/Joyce Julian.
Earlier they had set up several game areas - there was a bocce area along
with a golf ball tossing section. The new game Eivor introduced to us is
called Kubb, which Eivor told us is an old Viking game. Eight of our members
spent a very enjoyable time learning the rules and trying out the game with
her. Of course, her team won! The bocce teams put on a great intense game,
Great job, Browns and Julians!
One of our members recently had hip surgery and we were so pleased to see
them arrive on Saturday afternoon to spend some time with us.
We were also very happy to see Pete and Jan Shankle arrive in time for our
The Shankles provided us with early rounds Saturday night; later in the
evening, Pete cued a few rounds also. It was wonderful to hear his voice
We had 5 guest couples squaring up with us, 3 from Canada, 1 from PA, 1 from
NY, all snowbirds residing at Olde Mill Stream for the winter. We always
look forward to seeing them and dancing with them in a square.
As I mentioned earlier, we had a guest couple for the weekend - on Saturday
evening, they were introduced to our dancers as new members of 082! Welcome,
Tom and Bonnie!
We were all clued in on how our next campout will unfold. I look forward to
writing about our anticipated excitement next month!
