Our Chapter's latest square dance/camping excursion took place at Olde Mill
Stream RV Resort in Umatilla, FL the 4th weekend of January, 2009. We had a
gorgeous weekend albeit quite nippy! Six rigs arrived Thursday. One couple
had been past members and we all were delighted to see them again. After
much socializing, four couples ventured to the Mason Jar restaurant for
their evening nourishment. Before returning to the warmth of our coaches, we
met at the campground hall for a few rounds of card bingo.
Throughout the day Friday more coaches pulled in - a total of 16 member
couples plus three guest couples from Chapter 018 along with one couple from
Chapter 080. Time was spent preparing the hall for our evening casual dance
along with preparing for Saturday's activities. Some folks dined at the
Mason Jar while others headed to Pizza Hut for their evening repast.
Friday evening, our caller, Charlie Pergrossi, provided music for rounds
and after calling a fun-filled evening of square dancing, surprised us by
calling a hot hash tip. Great job, Charlie, that was certainly enjoyed by
the dancers! We also enjoyed meeting Sarah and Charlie's daughter along with
her two young adorable, delightful children.
Saturday found the members very busy. We started a Chinese auction while
having a white elephant and bake sale. For the Chinese auction our past
presidents donated several baskets full of goodies. Soon it was time for our
regular auction which is always a fun-filled event.
The Chapter's officers planned and prepared (along with welcome help from
other club members) the evening potluck dinner. Ham, scalloped potatoes,
green beans, applesauce, rolls, salad and a cake to celebrate the 34th
Anniversary of our Hitch 'n Go 082 Chapter. After dinner, our in-coming
President, on behalf of all our members, presented our past Presidents
with a gift for their service to the chapter.
Saturday night early rounds by Jan and Pete Shankle were earlier than usual
as we had installation of officers before the square dancing began. New
Officers are: President: Phil/Deanna Sortore; Vice President: Jim/Laureen
Kelly; Secretary: Tom/Jeanne Hartwig; Treasurer: Tom/Eivor Brown. A
surprise announcement was made during the dance that our President and Vice
President would be preparing ham and pancakes Sunday morning before our
departure! A wine and cheese after-party followed Saturday's dancing.
