Hitch 'N' Go  #082
Kissimmee, FL

October 2008

Starting Thursday, October 9th and ending on Sunday, October 12th, square dance campers came together at Blueberry Hill Campground in Bushnell, FL for the 33rd annual Florida State Camp-O-Ree.  Fifteen couples and one single from our chapter attended.

Our chapter planned a 'pizza supper' for Thursday's repast.  Phil Sortore ordered and picked up the pizzas and prepared a huge salad for our 082 members to enjoy. Thanks, Phil!

The hall was packed with dancers for the Trails End dance on Thursday evening - we all had a super time.  After the dance, our chapter hosted the after-party ice cream social which was a great hit.  Many thanks to all 082 members who turned out to help with the preparations, serving and cleanup.

Friday and Saturday mornings found many dancers participating in various sports. Two Hitch-N-Go couples won first and second place in both the golf toss game and the washer toss game. Congrats to Louie/Charlotte Steadman and Andy/Nancy Belski. We had the first place winners in the golf tournament also. Great playing and congrats to Jim Kelly, Phil Sortore and Tom Hartwig. Hats off to Tom Hartwig for chairing the sports committee.

Saturday noon found us attending the fashion show where couples from the different chapters participated by wearing their chapter outfits. It was a very colorful, lovely event. Thanks go out to Louie/Charlotte Steadman for their participation.

We had 3 couples win in the 'split the pot' raffles at the evening dances. Good going Steadmans, Whittens and Hartwigs! Plus, one of our very own couples, George/Sandy Oakes won the grand prize - $100!

Also want to acknowledge Sherye Bradley for agreeing to help judge the skits at Saturday night's after-party.

The nights of fun-filled dancing were led by callers Bill Chestnut, Jim Cosman, Ted Hughes and our very own Charlie Pergrossi. Cuers were Larry Chatos, Patricia Fuller-Gardner, along with Pete and Jan Shankle.

Rounding out the weekend was the fabulous breakfast feast put together on Sunday morning by our members Phil Sortore and Jim Kelly.

Personally, I enjoyed all the events during the weekend, however, my favorite was the hot hash segment on Friday night. It was fun, invigorating and challenging. I would like to see more hot hash segments at future camporees.

Jeanne Hartwig,
Secretary
