Gypsy Squares #168
March 3rd – 5th Camping
What a great Ala Cart weekend! We had 14 rigs arrive on Friday night.
By 5:00 groups had made their plans on what restaurant they were going to
dine at. A no cooking weekend. YEE-HAW!
The weekend was full of surprises. Ann and Ivan had to leave their
broken rig at home in their drive way. However, that didn’t stop them
from making the round trip from Ft. White, (a two-hour drive both nights) so
Ann could cue for us. WOW! That’s dedication, and we totally
appreciate their efforts. Thank you, Ann & Ivan.
It was like an old home weekend. Friday night, Janet & Walter Becker and
Paula & David Guildford, former Gypsy members, came. Janell & Rob
Duritsa showed up with Wendy & Joe. They live so close that they
didn’t camp but came to dance. Saturday night’s dance was a full house
with seven squares, with visitors from the Ocala area and even from New
York. We were quite the entertainment for the camp ground folks, some
were former dancers, one was even a caller. We were looking
really good dancing until Bill started to call Slip, Slither and Slide.
Too funny to watch. Ann filled the floor with round dancers,
quite a nice crowd.
Saturday morning was the Ocala RV show; a lot of tire kickers went to see
what they had. Bill & Mary may have bought a 5th wheel. We will
see at the state convention. We had our own RV show in the campground.
Barbara and Bob Rosenthal gave a tour of their new 5th wheel, and their new
truck: big and beautiful. Martha Zimmerman & Bob Jenkins are the
proud owners of a new motor home. Happy trails and as always, safe
travels, to you both.
The Chuck wagon stew in toasted bread bowls, with a salad was a nice change
from a pot luck. Thank you, ladies, for cleaning up while I was
eating. That was really nice, and appreciated. You out did yourselves
with all the desserts and snacks for the dance each night. The things
we learn about each other while drinking wine at the after parties.
Can you guess, who as a young girl, came home from school only to discover
her family had moved and left her behind????? Come to the next after
party and find out.
Change is coming for the Gypsy Squares campouts as a result of our general
meeting. With the cost of everything increasing every year, our
treasury is getting low. It was agreed that the club needs to cut some
spending and raise our yearly dues to $12.00 starting in 2018.
Also, starting at the next campout, members will be asked to bring their own
paper goods, silverware, etc., for every meal and snacks. There are
two reasons for that: the expense of providing all those items, and the
amount of storage space it takes for the one person who has to keep all the
supplies. Plus, we all have these items in our RV’s Also,
there will be a “Free Will Basket” or “Kitty Fun Bucket” for free will
The good news is the fun stuff will continue. For example, our May
camp out will be an ‘Oh La La’ weekend. It will be May 19-21 at
Williston Crossing RV Resort, 410 NE 5th St., Williston, Fl. 32696. Phone
352-528-7100. Rates are $49.00 for pull-throughs, $40.00 for back ins, and
$40.00 for grass sites. No 50 amp rigs allowed on grass sites. Call
and make your own reservations.
We are looking forward to camping with all the other clubs at the FANSDC
SPRING FLING - April 21 -23rd at Blueberry Hill RV Resort, 6233 Lowery
Street, Bushnell, FL., 33513. Call 888-759-4957 to make your
reservation tell them what club you are with. This will be a regular
campout for the Square Wheels, but all other clubs will be invited.
Club members will pay their own treasurer and each club will pay their own
expenses. There will be a camping yard sale. You keep the money
from your sales. Big Pot Luck on Saturday. Sunday, they will have
pancakes and we are asked to bring breakfast foods to share.
See you all soon on the dance floor or camping.
