2012 CHRISTMAS CAMPOUT REMINDER NEWSLETTER

It is getting close, hope you have your reservations made for our Christmas campout this weekend and have contacted Jay and Teri so they know just how many mouths they will be feeding!!  Sending a few last minute details.  Karen will be work shopping the scarves and Annie is bringing a craft if anyone is interested in doing that.  I am enclosing Karen’s email with the info:

It's that time of the year to learn to make those fancy ruffle knitted scarfs that are all the fashion!!!

On Sat. morning, Decemver 8th, at the Gypsy campout, Ann Dunsworth and I will have a workshop with a guarantee that all will learn this technique and have a scarf to prove it.  I have purchased enough yarn to make 10 scarfs in a variety of colors ... at a cost to you of $5.00 ... We have quite a few needles but if you have a pair of size 7, 8, or 9 ... bring them along.  The yarn is also available at the discount stores (Michaels, JoAnne's or Hobby Lobby) should you wish to choose your own colors...

It is Red Heart Boutique ...Sashay.    Any questions please call me  386-852-5458 or e-mail kgagne@clearwire.net  See you at the campout!!!
       Karen Gagne

Just to refresh our “young” minds I am also enclosing all the weekend details from my last newsletter:

We will be collecting annual dues at our December Campout, $30.00 per couple which includes National and Club dues.  Associate dues are $10.00 per couple annually.  The date is December 7th, 8th and 9th at Lake Oklawaha RV Resort in Fort McCoy on the Rodman Reservoir. Friday night, December 7th, we will have a bag lunch social in the hall at 5:00 p.m.  It worked so well at the camporee we thought we would give it a try.  Just pack your lunch and come on over.  That way we won’t have to worry about weather etc. and we can kick off the weekend with grub and gab.  A very short Installation ceremony planned by Gary and Gail LaRue will precede the dance at 7:15 Friday evening.  Bill will be at his calling best as will Ed cueing rounds between tips.  We can pick up the gab once again at our wine and cheese after party.

Saturday, December 8th, we will have a Sloppy Joe lunch at noon cooked up by our own 2 Sassies (with John and Dale supervising) and served with chips and pickles along with some of the desserts brought in by the club members…..all for the price of $1.00 per person We are a week late for the Hog Valley Christmas parade – darn – so we will spend the day  CRAFTING (Karen Gagne will teach us scarf knitting and will bring the supplies - we will send a follow up email with the details on that).  DECORATING (I know the guys will like to do that, or perhaps play cards) and Maxine will get us up off our chairs to do some LINE DANCING.  We have to work up an appetite for the fabulous roast pork dinner at 5:00 p.m. prepared by our favorite chefs Jay and Teri.  If you did not put your name on the attendance list at O’Leno make sure you notify them @386-672-8677 by Nov. 30th so they can make out their grocery list.  Dinner is the club's Christmas gift to all of you along with a little “present” in your gift bags at the table….. Thanks Gypsy treasury!  We will dance from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday evening.  Gypsy weekends are always square dance apparel optional but let’s dress in our holiday finery for this special evening.  (Optional of course)  Our after party will once again be our famous Chinese Gift Swap, so each person who wishes to get in on the action should bring a gift ($5.00 minimum,).

The club officers host the Christmas campout, so you all are invited to breakfast Sunday morning at 10AM??  (Ya right Joanne; it will be at 8:30 AM) Come see what we have cookin’ as we bid farewell and look forward to the January weekend hosted by the Square Wheels.

See you on Friday,
Joanne and Dale

What a great time everyone had at the CAMPOREE in October… lots of Gypsy’s present, and taking part in all of the activities.  Thanks to everyone who helped with the decorating, the hall was “SPOOKTACULA”.  The Rosenthal’s did a wonderful job, making  #128 and #168 proud, thanks guys.  If you didn’t get there this year, do not miss next year’s camporee the first weekend in October at Wikiva Falls.  We know Square Wheels Jerry and Donna Robey (Chairmen) will make us proud once again. Yes, the Gypsy’s will be decorating!  O’Leno was once again a fun weekend with the weather cooperating and hall filled with happy dancers.  Our dynamic duo, Jay and Teri Peck, outdid themselves with the delicious dinner served Saturday evening.  This is another event you definitely should put on your calendar for November 1-3 next year.

The Holidays are upon us and along with pleasure comes some business also.  We will be collecting annual dues at our December Campout.  $30.00 per couple which includes National and Club dues.  Associate dues are $10.00 per couple annually.  Plans are made for the Gypsy Squares and Square Wheels Combined Christmas campout…. now all we need to make it a huge success is you…. with smiles and dancing shoes. The date is December 7th, 8th and 9th at Lake Oklawaha RV Resort in Fort McCoy on the Rodman Reservoir. Please call the campground to make your reservations @ 352-546-5500, the rally rate is $26.73 per night.   We are asking you to bring a dessert and whatever you think will add to the holiday fare while dancing.  Here is what we have planned:  Friday night we will have a bag lunch social in the hall at 5:00 p.m.  It worked so well at the camporee we thought we would give it a try.  Just pack your lunch and come on over.  That way we won’t have to worry about weather etc. and we can kick off the weekend with grub and gab.  A very short Installation ceremony of “new” officers, (or more like reinstatement of “old” officers) will precede the dance at 7:15 Friday evening.  Bill will be at his calling best as will Ed cueing rounds between tips.  We can pick up the gab once again at our wine and cheese (or whatever) after party.  Sound like a plan??

Saturday we will have a Sloppy Joe lunch at noon cooked up by our own Judi Corbett (with John supervising). They will be served with chips and pickles along with some of the desserts brought in by the club members…..all for the price of $1.00 per person.  Sound like a plan??

We are a week late for the Hog Valley Christmas parade – darn – so we will spend the afternoon CRAFTING (Karen Gagne will teach us scarf knitting and will bring the supplies - we will send a follow up email with the details on that). It’s “SPOOKTACULA” Halloween time!!  CAMPOREE time….. Oct. 25-28 at Blueberry Hill RV Resort.  Dig out those costumes (or casual attire) and come kick off the weekend Thursday evening, a dancing spooky time is promised with an ice cream social planned to wind up the evening. You can still make reservations and buy ribbons from Martha. Square Dance attire of your choice is requested for all of the evening dances.  Traditional suggestions are: Friday night State Colors (Orange & White Square Dance Attire). Saturday night (Club Colors).  There will be a lot of activities and we urge you to participate.  Sign-up sheets will be posted.  The Gypsy’s volunteered to help decorate the hall so if you are there on Wednesday come and help our associate members Barb and Bob Rosenthal (Camporee chairmen) along with Dale and me, set a DECORATIVE mood for the weekend. If you have any decorations that would add to the theme, please bring them.  Don’t forget about the pumpkin carving contest I reminded you about in a previous email. They will be used as table decorations for Saturday’s dinner.  We are donating five $5.00/plus door prizes as requested from each club.  Sounds like a spectacular “spooky” weekend; we are looking forward to squaring up with everyone.

Don’t unpack your RV….the following weekend Nov. 2-4 the O’Leno Hoedown – at O’Leno State Park, High Springs will be held.  If you have not signed up yet please do so by responding to this email or by contacting Mary Chesnut 352-475-2550 and leave a message. A fairly accurate head count is needed for the food purchases.

Note from Mary:   If this is your 1st year as a Square Wheel or Gypsy member attending O’Leno, the cost is  $32.00 per person for meals & dancing for the weekend and you would sign up for duties where needed.  If you’ve been a member & worked prior year(s) the cost is $ 15.00 per couple - $7.50 per single to cover the cost of food.  We will have a chili/rice supper for all members on Friday evening.  All members are asked to bring finger foods for both the Friday & Saturday night dances. Thanks in advance for your help.  Bill & Mary

10/1/12

Greetings!           Please visit the current 2013 calendar for #128 and #168. Please note that the January campout will be held at Lake Oklawaha RV Park due to construction at Pacetti’s Marina. Mark the dates on your calendar so attendance will be good, making a fun dancing and camping year for both clubs.

Ann Dunsworth (acting secretary for Judi Corbett) is compiling the minutes from the club meeting held at our September campout at Pacetti's.  As you know it was our election of officers and as their were no volunteers for the positions the present board agreed to stay on for another year term.  We all are dedicated enough to want the Gypsy's to remain the great club that it is.  Details of the election and committee volunteers will follow in the minutes.  It was a super campout with a very large turnout and lots of great square and round dancing.  The fish fry prepared by our own super chefs Jay and Teri Peck was a huge success and the Square Wheels delicious anniversary cake satisfied the sweet tooth big time!  You must be careful not to miss the campouts, they are far too much fun to miss!  Bill and Ed called and cued the whole weekend through adding just the right touch.  SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!!

The Camporee is coming up Oct. 25th thru 27th at Blueberry Hill RV Resort in Bushnell.  I hope you all have your registrations sent in and will enjoy this fun event.  Us, along with the Square Wheels will be helping the Rosenthals with the hall decorations, so come and pitch in, Dale and I are chairmen.   The Haloween theme will be a fun one to carry out and the costume ball spooky!!  Bring your favorite costumes.  Don't forget also to enter the pumpkin carving contest...details in seperate email.  Hope to see everyone there.

O'Leno Campout will be the 2nd and 3rd of November...another great weekend.  Mary Chesnut is making a list of volunteers from our two clubs to prepare the food etc.  Campground reservations must be made on your own thru Reserve America.  Check the website for details.

Last but not least is our Christmas Campout at Lake Oklawaha RV Resort December 7-9.  A detailed newsletter will be sent out prior to our gala affair.   Definitely mark that date on your calendar.

Don't forget to check out our website www.floridadancing.com/gypsysquares

Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers, and happy Sunday to all the rest of you.

Just a quick note to inform you that Gail and Gary LaRue have so generously volunteered as the nominating committee.
Dale and I can’t thank them enough and ask everyone to respond to them in a kind and timely manner.
As we stated at the meeting held at our May campout we feel it is time for someone else to take the reigns and lead the gypsy squares forward.

We are a fun club and hosting the March, May and December camping weekends have definitely proved that.
I am sure there are a lot of new ideas out there, and they will be welcomed by all.
The LaRue’s will report at the September campout at Pacetti’s, followed by the election.
Installation will be held at the December outing and the new officers will take over the first of January.
Sounds like a plan right?  Let’s make it happen!

Ann Dunsworth has put the by-laws on a CD and we will see that you receive a copy and also a copy of her minutes from the meeting.
The next campout will be in August with the Square Wheels hosting.
Martha will send out a newsletter with all of the information (also on our website),
but in the meantime we are looking forward to dancing in a square with you at the State Convention the end of this month.

Yellow Rocks,
Joanne and Dale

P.S.  John is doing miraculously well and thanks everyone for all of the cards, phone calls, etc…..but mostly for all of your prayers.  He will at the Ueber’s Condo until hopefully mid July and is happy to be so close to Mayo for rehab and appointments.  Best of care from them and of course the very best from Sissy.

4/14/12

Dale and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at Pacetti’s Friday the 20th thru Sunday     a.m. the 22nd.  The Square Wheels are hosting and have set their agenda as follows:

Friday night dance at 7:30 PM is casual.

On Saturday Square Wheels will host a hot dog lunch complete with side dishes, for everyone.

Saturday night 5:00 PM covered dish dinner.

Dance at 7:30 PM, square dance attire.  (Casual attire is optional at all campouts for Gypsy Squares)

Sunday Breakfast 8:30 AM.

The GPS address is 6550 State Road 13 North, St. Augustine, Fl. 32092.The cost is $20.00 per night.

Let Martha know if you are going to be camping, she will make your reservations.

We will have a club meeting following the covered dish dinner on Saturday.  One important item to think about is selecting a nominating committee.  It’s that time again for an election of officers and we are sure with our increased membership we will have more offers to join the committee than we can handle, right?  Hopefully we will have a report from the committee at the May campout with an election taking place in the fall.  Please give a lot of thought to this as it is important to have a good core of officers to keep our club running smoothly and productively …. with fun being an important priority.

May 4-6 is the date of the campout we will be hosting at Wild Frontier Campground.  It is located on

US 441 N. behind the America Choice RV Sales in Ocala.  The GPS address is 3040 NW Gainesville Road. The cost is $24.80 per night including tax.  Please call the campground (352-629-3540) to make your reservations, asking for the rally rate.  Bill will be his fun calling self and the addition of Ed’s cueing lends something for everyone.  Plans will be in the works and you will receive notice of such prior to the campout. Volunteers and suggestions welcome.

We will have brochures, registration forms and ribbons available for the Camp-o-ree Oct 25-28 at Blueberry Hill RV Resort in Bushnell.  Let’s get our ribbons early for this “spooky” weekend and support Chairmen Bob and Barb Rosenthal all the way. (don’t forget we all will be the decorating goblins)! All activities are only $45 per member couple.

See you at Pacetti’s on the 20th for some camping fun, dancing fun, eating fun and after-party social fun.

Yellow Rocks,
Joanne and Dale

P.S.  Please pray for John and Judi Corbett.  John has been at Mayo since April 1st awaiting a lung for transplant and he will be there until one is available for him.  I know all square dancers are on God’s good side so your prayers will be helpful!  Thank you, Joanne

3/6/12

Greetings everyone….ah “time”….where does it go? It certainly flies by when you are traveling, camping, cruising, having fun and enjoying those important things in life, right? This was to be a February newsletter but “time” got away from me and I do want to keep in touch and pass on all the information regarding our wonderful clubs, the Gypsy’s and the Square Wheels. Our joint campouts have been nothing but a huge success and all the dancers clamoring to join is a perfect example! Thanks Mr. Bill for making that possible and thanks to all the members who are making this transition in such a fun and positive manner. Thanks to you too Mary, you are the best taw ever!

I am including an excerpt from the article I wrote in the Grapevine and Bow and Swing publications as I am sure not all of you subscribe. They are very informative and keep you in the loop, I recommend checking into getting a subscription. It reads as follows:

February 17th-18th was a great weekend in Lake City, not only for the campers, square dancers and street vendors, but also the hundreds of people in attendance. It was balmy and sunny during the day, and warm enough to have 1 after party in the gazebo. Those two fireplaces came in handy tho! The club house felt mighty cozy for Saturday’s party. It was so nice to have Bubba and Cindy join us. The Gypsy’s make this their February camping weekend and it truly is a special one. The Friday night dance at Teen Town Recreation Center sponsored by #128 was a good way to set the mood for this fun weekend. The Dixie Dancers did an outstanding job hosting the Saturday dance at the Toyota Showroom. The silent auction, the beautifully decorated hall and tables laden with some of the best food, snacks and desserts in the south make this an event to mark on your calendar for 2013. One of Louisiana’s best, Bubba Mingus was the guest caller, and along with our own Bill Chesnut and cuers Lisa Wall and Ralph Beekman the dancing was awesome. Abe Lincoln and General Robert E. Lee with many of their southern dignitaries led the grand march in full costume, a sight to behold…they even danced a tip. The Sunday breakfast served by #128 was outstanding, thanks for the TLC, you sent all of us off looking forward to our March campout in White Springs.

We will host the campout which will be held during the Azalea Festival March 16-18th at Suwannee Valley R.V. Resort in White Springs!  The GPS address is: 786 NW Stephen Foster Drive, White Springs, Fl. 32096. Please let Martha (marthazimmerman@cox.net) know if you are camping this weekend. The cost is $15.00 per night plus tax for 30 amp and $2.00 more for 50 amps. I am sure all of you have received the email Martha sent with the information on the menus offered (she is so efficient - she is always a step ahead of me) but I will include it here for those who did not receive it. As far as meals go, the campground now uses the recreation hall for all meals.  We will have the hall for dancing. They will be preparing breakfast & dinners during the entire weekend.  Your option being, you can participate in their meals @ a cost of $5.00 per person per meal or you can opt to bring your own food or join in with other campers. (not sure on the weather, but we could have an outside potluck picnic Saturday evening. You will be notified in advance if this works out).
Talk it over and please reserve your meal participation by March 9th, either to Martha .386-397-1667 or to the campground directly, 800-562-9382. There will be a large assortment of food at the festival in White Springs as well, especially for lunch. The menu is as follows:

Fri pm:
Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers, potato salad & baked beans
OR
Chicken breast with baked potato & vegetable.

Ice Cream Social @ 6.45 PM

Saturday
Breakfast 8 am – 9:30 am
2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 biscuits (butter, jam, OJ & coffee).

Saturday
Dinner served @ 6 pm
Corned beef, cabbage & Potatoes w/roll.

Sunday
Breakfast – 8am – 9:30 am
Scrambled eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes, OJ & coffee.

This is a first for me but Dale has been there many times. I am told the Azaleas are in full bloom, a sight to behold so lets get those reservations in. We look forward to seeing everyone there, and don’t forget to bring your clothes (we are a week early..lol). We will have our wine and cheese after parties as always, and will squeeze a meeting in there sometime. Bring ideas, suggestions and some officer nominations for our May 4th thru 6th weekend at Wild Frontier RV Park in Ocala.

Guess I have had the mike long enough and my “time” is up. We will see all of you at Suwannee Valley. Yellow rocks to all and thanks for all you do to make square dancing the best!
