Florida Callers Association

President’s Message

Dave MullerArticle number 10, and I thought I wouldn’t make it. Only 2 more to go. On July 22 Carol and I attended the Celebration of Life of John Saunders. Along with 14 callers and 6 cuers we learned more of John’s life from his oldest son Michael. John was a great family man along with being a great caller. John Barrett and Bill Chesnut along with recordings of John Saunders had people up dancing.

What you might not know is John was also a giving person. When Carol and I moved to Florida we danced in his Advanced club on Mondays in Belleview. Shortly after I was working with RJ Hogan every other Monday night in DeLand. John and Linda would travel through DeLand to come to Belleview and I would then go to DeLand to call there. One day John ask why don’t we switch and save 100 miles for each of us ? This is how I got an Advanced club. Thanks John and Linda.

Saunders’ long time friends Art and Martha Springer attended the ceremony. Nice to visit with them.

Don’t forget it’s never to early to recruit for the next Square Dance class. Please make plans to attend FCA’s clinic in October in Lakeland.

See you next month.

President’s Message

The calendar says that summer is over but the weather does not agree – it is still very hot. In spite of what the weather says we know that classes have begun. They have begun not only for your children and grandchildren but hopefully your Square Dance class has started and is making rapid progress. Keep encouraging all of the new dancers to be present each week for the lesson so they will soon be able to join your club at its regular dances. Also talk up their being able to join in the many special dances that are held each year.

Talking about special dances that are coming up – have you got your ribbons and hotel rooms for the regional fall dances that are rapidly approaching. Make your plans to attend all three of these dances. The first one is the NWFSRDA Roundup being held in Pensacola on October 27th and 28th. This is followed by The Fall Fun Fest sponsored by the West Coast in Barstow on November 10th and 11th. Then the following weekend (November 17th and 18th) the Northeast is sponsoring the Fall Festival in Jacksonville Beach. NOW is the time to get your ribbons and make your hotel reservation for these super dances.

The Florida Federation will be holding their annual meeting on November 19th at the host hotel in Jacksonville Beach. So come to the Fall Festival and stay for the meeting on Sunday morning.

Also coming up is the 64th Florida State Square and Round Dance Convention in Daytona Beach on February 23rd and 24th. Be sure to get your ribbons before the price increases on January 1, 2018. Also get your hotel room soon, because this is a busy time for the hotels in the Daytona area. Remember that the Trail-End Dance will be held on February 22, 2018 at Nova Community Center in Ormond Beach. It is located at 440 N Nova Rd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.

See you in a square soon

President
